With the idea of building “an art museum without walls and fluid art academy”, the Pearl Art Museum has delivered a series of “Read Art in Books” lectures since the end of September in 2019.
“Read Art in Books” is designed to invite an expert each time to tell an art story with a book and instruct in systematic and interesting art appreciation. Based on the sharing from the experts, it enables ordinary people to have a glimpse of the most advanced and classic art research and works and have the knowledge and mind-set for appreciating art works.
王安石应友人邀请参观内府的例行书画整理，在短暂的观看过程中，他浏览了众多名家绝品。但令他印象最为深刻的则是周文矩的《重屏会棋图》，为此他在“观后感”《江邻几邀观三馆书画》一诗中，对此画做出了生动的描述。
“……不知名姓貌人物，二公对奕旁观俱。黄金错镂为投壶，粉幛复画一病夫。后有女子执巾裾，床前红毯平火炉。床上二姝展氍毹，绕床屏风山有无。堂上列画三重铺，此幅巧甚意思殊。孰真孰假丹青摹，世事若此还可吁。”
画中四位男子执子“会棋”，在他们的身后放置着一扇绘有休憩图的屏风，而屏风之内又有一扇三折山水屏，因此被称为“重屏会棋”。在我国的历史文化中，屏风是用来挡风或分割视线的用具。在《重屏会棋图》中，画家运用屏风入画，在同一幅画面中构建了厅堂、卧房与自然三重空间。在以线性延展为主的中国古代经典作品中，显得尤为别致。
On October 13 (Sunday), Chen Yan, associate professor of Fine Arts College of Shanghai Normal University delivered a lecture themed with Visual riddle on folding screen: Playing Chess in Front of the Folding Screen and iconology research, as the second lecture of “Read Art in Books – Read the Paintings”, at the Center of Light Space of the Museum. In the painting, a folding screen is contained in another folding screen and a painting is contained in another painting. The lecturer explained the historical mystery and epochal feature behind the painting.
