Dance and poem are relatively abstract in all kinds of artistic forms. We do not make any description for them, but are interested in the language and form themselves.

Abstract art requires audiences to enter the world of the creators, ask or communicate with them experiencing run-in. Audiences need to be immersed in such world.

“Time Theater: Zhai Yongming’s Exhibition of Literature and Photography” will be unveiled in the Heart Hall of Pearl Art Museum on October 19, 2020. Zhai Yongming defined this exhibition as follows: “We prefer to call it a theater because nowadays our life is like a big performance space. We perform in each social channel no matter if we are willing to do such performance. Our creation, life, body, and face have left indelible traces on the Internet.”

As one of the most important contemporary poets in China, Zhai Yongming also has photographic works of various themes except literature creation. She continues to explore interactive relationship among different art fields. She said, “Boundaryless is probably an important characteristic of this age. Boundary of any artistic form is broken.”

On September 26, 2020, a show consisting of Zhai Yongming’s 12 Sections of Poem about Cloud, Tao Ye’s dance 12, and Xiao He’s music 12 o’clock was performed on the seaside of Aranya. During the 12 hours from sunrise to sunset, 12 dancers performed on the stage successively. Poems, dances, and music were performed against the background of sky and clouds.

At the evening of October 19 (Monday), the poet Zhai Yongming and art director of Tao Dance Theater Tao Ye will be invited to the Heart Hall of Pearl Art Museum to discuss literature extension and feel the spark of inspiration when the poem and dance meet. Let’s appreciate poems, watch the body move, and observe the nature.
Zhai Yongming
Poet, author, and founder of the cultural brand “White Night”
She began to publish poems in 1981 and focused on writing after resignation in 1986; she founded the culture salon White Night in 1998.
She has created multiple collections of poems and anthologies including Woman, Beyond All Roses, Called Everything, Finally in a Financial Strait, 14 Plainsongs, Line Spacing, Fuchun Mountain Tour with Huang Gongwang, the Most Euphemistic Words, and The Trend Has Gone. Her works have been translated into English, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, and German and published in these countries.
Tao Ye,
art director and founder of Tao Dance Theater
was born in Chongqing and graduated from Chongqing Dance School. He was a dancer in Art Troupe of Chinese Armed Police Force in Shanghai, Shanghai Jinxing Dance Theater, and Beijing Modern Dance Company. He founded the Tao Dance Theater at the age of 23 and created dance works of digit series including Weight×3, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12. Inspired by the Oriental thought, he created “Circular Movement System” combined with his own dancing style. The dancing system enjoys a high reputation in the world. He was invited to perform on the world-class Lincoln Center Festival in New York at the age of 27.
